World Book Day Thursday 6th March 2025

World Book Day Thursday 6th March 2025

On Thursday, 6th March, schools across the Trust came together to celebrate the magic of books and reading for World Book Day.

At North Rigton Church of England Primary School, students and staff embraced the spirit of the day by dressing up as their favourite book characters. The staff even participated in a 'Masked Reader' game, which proved to be a fun and engaging activity for the whole school. The day also featured a series of 'Share a Story' sessions between classes, where students had the opportunity to read to one another. Additionally, Key Stage 2 students joined a live lesson with the National Literacy Trust and author Kit Brown, further enhancing their literacy skills. As part of the celebration, students took part in a Book Swap, bringing in old, pre-loved books to exchange for new treasures, fostering a love of reading and sustainability.

St Peter’s Church of England Primary School celebrated World Book Day 2025 in style, with an exciting array of events and activities, all set against the backdrop of their newly updated library and nurture room facilities. These spaces have been fully refurbished to create calm and welcoming environments where children can truly embrace the joy of reading.

Leading up to World Book Day, the St Peter’s Eco Council organised a successful costume swap, collecting over twenty costumes. This initiative not only saved around £200 but also ensured that these costumes found new homes instead of being discarded. Throughout the week, children enjoyed listening to stories recorded by staff and governors, each sharing their favourite books with the students.

On the day itself, students showcased their creativity through an impressive array of World Book Day costumes, continuing a long-standing tradition at the school. Each class also visited the newly refurbished library, where they explored the World Book Day focus book, What a Wonderful Word. This beautiful collection of untranslatable words from around the world celebrates the richness of language, featuring stunning artwork and fascinating cultural facts. After exploring the book, students got creative in their classrooms by designing their own words, combining two or more words to create something entirely new.

As part of the festivities, students had the opportunity to enter the school's World Book Day competition, where they were tasked with designing a new front cover for their favourite book and explaining their design choices. The winning designs from each year group earned a special prize: a trip to Waterstones in Harrogate to participate in a themed book workshop later in the term.

World Book Day was a wonderful celebration of creativity, learning, and the power of reading, leaving students with lasting memories and a renewed passion for books.
